Plastic pollution is one of the most serious environmental threats of our time. Every year, between 8 and 12 million tonnes of plastic end up in the oceans, where it accumulates to form huge floating islands.

This plastic has a devastating impact on the marine environment. Marine animals mistake it for food, ingest it and die. The plastic degrades into microplastics, which are ingested by fish and other animals, eventually ending up in the food chain.

Plastic pollution is not only a problem for the oceans, but also for the terrestrial environment. Plastic accumulates in soils, contaminating water and soil. It can also be ingested by land animals, with deadly consequences.

We at String Project believe that it is our duty to care for the Earth and take concrete action, and we want to do our part to solve it.

For this reason, we decided to partner with Plastiks.io, a Greentech company that improves plastic recovery and recycling rates by connecting companies with recovery projects around the world.

Plastiks' vision is to create a world free of plastic waste and to become the world reference for plastic credits by guaranteeing and certifying the recovery and recycling of plastic waste worldwide.

Specifically, we decided to start embracing two projects:

Leonardo GR:

a company that has been committed to environmental sustainability for 75 years.

The company specialises in waste recovery and classification, and thanks to its efficient processes, 70% of the waste that enters its plant does not end up in landfills, but is recycled.

It is also socially committed with collection campaigns to ensure that children with disabilities have the means to improve their daily lives. They actively collaborate with Diabetes 0 Foundation and the "La Foundation Rotaria".

Gravity Wave:

a social, circular and environmental awareness company committed to solving one of humanity’s greatest challenges: plastic pollution of the seas and oceans.

Gravity Wave cleans plastic from the seabed and transforms it into long-lasting design products of high sustainable value through a circular economy process.

This process reduces the environmental impact of plastic by reducing the need for virgin raw materials and waste production. It not only cleans the plastic already in the seas and oceans, but also tries to prevent plastic from returning to the sea.

To do this, the company has created a network of over 4000 fishermen in several Mediterranean countries. The fishermen are paid for every kg of plastic they recover from the sea. The plastic recovered from the seabed and fishing nets is transformed into an incredibly durable and beautiful material. This material is perfect for use in furniture and decoration.
